Special licenses to practice osteopathic medicine: Resident medical officer

  • professional employee of State or United States.

1.

Except as otherwise provided in NRS 633.315, the Board may issue a special license to practice osteopathic medicine to a person qualified under this section to authorize the person to serve:

(a)

As a resident medical officer in any hospital in Nevada. A person issued such a license shall practice osteopathic medicine only within the confines of the hospital specified in the license and under the supervision of the regular medical staff of that hospital.

(b)

As a professional employee of the State of Nevada or of the United States. A person issued such a license shall practice osteopathic medicine only within the scope of his or her employment and under the supervision of the appropriate state or federal medical agency.

2.

An applicant for a special license under this section must:

(a)

Be a graduate of a school of osteopathic medicine.

(b)

Pay the special license fee specified in this chapter.

3.

The Board shall not issue a license under subsection 1 unless it has received a letter from a hospital in Nevada or from the appropriate state or federal medical agency requesting issuance of the special license to the applicant.

4.

A special license issued under this section:

(a)

Must be issued at a meeting of the Board or between its meetings by its President and Secretary subject to approval at the next meeting of the Board.

(b)

Is valid for a period not exceeding 1 year, as determined by the Board.

(c)

May be renewed by the Board upon application and payment by the licensee of the special license renewal fee specified in this chapter.

(d)

Does not entitle the licensee to engage in the private practice of osteopathic medicine.

5.

The issuance of a special license under this section does not obligate the Board to grant any regular license to practice osteopathic medicine.
