Administrator as head of Bureau

1.

The Bureau must be headed by the Administrator.

2.

The Bureau shall:

(a)

Assist persons who are blind in achieving physical and psychological orientation and inform persons who are blind of available services to assist persons who are blind in achieving their vocational goals.

(b)

Provide intensive programs of education, training, job development, physical restoration and such other services and equipment as may prepare persons who are blind to engage in competitive integrated employment.

(c)

Provide vocational rehabilitation services directly or through other governmental entities or persons to any person who is blind, including any person who is blind who is eligible under the terms of an agreement or arrangement with the Federal Government, another state or an Indian tribe.

3.

The Bureau may:

(a)

Provide for treatment or operations to prevent blindness or restore vision to recipients of services to persons who are blind who request and are eligible for such services under federal law and make written application for such treatment or operations; and

(b)

Pay for necessary expenses incurred in connection with the diagnosis and treatment provided under paragraph (a).

4.

As used in this section, “state” includes, without limitation, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands and Guam.
