NRS 392.123
Written statement verifying pupil’s compliance with minimum attendance requirements or determination of existence of hardship and best interests of pupil or pupil’s family

  • submission of written statement or determination with application for driver’s license
  • boards of trustees to prescribe standard form.

1.

The principal of a public school or a designee of the principal shall, upon written request by a pupil who is between the ages of 14 and 18 years and who is enrolled in the school, provide the pupil a written statement signed by the principal or the designee:

(a)

Verifying that the pupil has complied with the minimum attendance requirements established by the board of trustees of the school district pursuant to NRS 392.122; or

(b)

If the pupil does not satisfy the requirements of paragraph (a), indicating that the principal or the designee has determined that a hardship exists and it would be in the best interests of the pupil or his or her family for the pupil to be allowed to drive if the pupil otherwise satisfies the requirements of NRS 483.2521, 483.267 or 483.270, as applicable.

The principal of a public school or a designee of the principal shall not provide a written statement pursuant to subsection 1 unless the pupil satisfies the requirements of paragraph (a) of subsection 1 or the principal determines a hardship exists pursuant to paragraph (b) of subsection 1.

The written statement provided to the pupil pursuant to subsection 1 may be used for the purposes of submitting materials that must accompany an application for a driver’s license pursuant to NRS 483.2521 or an application for a restricted license pursuant to NRS 483.267 and 483.270.

4.

The board of trustees of each school district shall prescribe a standard form for use by the principals employed by the school district and their designees pursuant to this section.
