Authorization to allow certain pupils to participate in sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event at different school

  • payment of costs associated with such participation.

1.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association may, by regulation, allow a pupil who is enrolled in a charter school, private school, parochial school or public school to participate in a sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event at a public school that offers the sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event if:

(a)

The charter school, private school, parochial school or public school enrolls not more than 30 pupils collectively in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 during a school year;

(b)

The pupil resides in the school district or zone of attendance in which the public school is located or, if the pupil does not reside in that school district or zone of attendance, the pupil may participate in a sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event at a public school which is located nearest to the residence of the pupil or which is specified in regulations adopted by the Association;

(c)

The sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event is not offered at the charter school, private school, parochial school or public school in which the pupil is enrolled; and

(d)

The board of trustees of the school district in which the public school is located approves the participation of the pupil in the sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event at the public school.

If the board of trustees of a school district approves the participation of a pupil in a sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event at a public school located within the school district pursuant to paragraph (d) of subsection 1, the board of trustees may negotiate, contract for or otherwise require the payment of any costs associated with the participation of the pupil in the sanctioned sport or other interscholastic event pursuant to this section.

The provisions of this section do not limit or otherwise affect:

(a)

The authority of a board of trustees of a school district relating to any public school or pupil enrolled in a public school in the school district.

(b)

The authority of the Association relating to any school or pupil enrolled in a school.

(c)

The ability of a pupil who is enrolled in a charter school to participate in sports at a public school pursuant to NRS 388A.474.
