Establishment of system for electronic transmission of voter registration information as part of certain transactions with Department

  • requirements for system.

The Secretary of State, the Department of Motor Vehicles and each county clerk shall cooperatively establish a system by which voter registration information that is collected pursuant to NRS 293.5742 by the Department from a person who submits an application for the issuance or renewal of or change of address for any type of driver’s license or identification card issued by the Department must be transmitted electronically to the Secretary of State and the county clerks for the purpose of registering the person to vote or updating the voter registration information of the person for the purpose of correcting the statewide voter registration list pursuant to NRS 293.530.

The system established pursuant to subsection 1 must:

(a)

Ensure the secure electronic storage of information collected pursuant to NRS 293.5742, the secure transmission of such information to the Secretary of State and county clerks and the secure electronic storage of such information by the Secretary of State and county clerks;

(b)

Provide for the destruction of records by the Department as required by subsection 2 of NRS 293.5747; and

(c)

Enable the county clerks to receive, view and collate the information into individual electronic documents pursuant to paragraph (c) of subsection 1 of NRS 293.5742.
